Day 15

His workmanship

I can’t think of any greater job than to be given a task by God the Father. He gave me gifts and abilities to do His work on Earth! He has creatively designed me to be a member of His body, and I have the privilege of blessing other people with my membership. How could I be envious of another member, when I was designed to be … me? I think of the people from the bible, the ones who were given talents to invest. I have talents to invest in people, in lives, in the world! I don’t steal talents from other people, but I invest and grow the ones I was given by God. This story inspires me to work hard for God, because I want to show Him all the awesome talents I have to invest. There are opportunities to invest everywhere; I just have to keep my eyes open and be ready to do whatever He asks me to do.

LISTEN

My Faithful Servant, I am so pleased with your work. When you work for me, remember that I have asked you to invest the talents I gave you. I do not ask you to work because I need your work. I ask you to work, because I gave you special gifts that other people will be blessed by. I was generous to give you these —  please be generous in sharing them. That is the very reason I gave them to you! Think of Jesus; the town had many other capable carpenters. I assure you, His craftsmanship was noticed and appreciated, but His work was worth far more than wood and nails.

READ

Colossians 2:13-15 ESV: “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”

1 Corinthians 3:9-11 ESV: “For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:10 ESV: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

REFLECT

Reflect on the parable in Matthew 25:14-30.

What special talents has the Lord given you?

How can you invest your talents in your work?

How is your work an image of Christ’s gospel?
