Day 17

Doers of the Word

Sometimes I get anxious when I read the bible, because there are some people who have done amazing things for God. I read their stories and I am challenged by their courage to do these things. I question if I can really fulfill the things that God’s Word calls me to do. Then, I remember that the bible characters I know really weren’t the best people. More often than not, they said “no” the first time that God asked them to do something! Even Moses said he wasn’t a good speaker, then a few chapters later he saw that God was more powerful than his negative answer. I can be a doer of God’s Word, not with my own courage, but with my own faith. I believe God will use me in faithfulness to His Word.

LISTEN

I gave you my Word to instruct, teach, and rebuke. I gave you this resource of myself so that you can know me and trust me. Learn my ways, so that you may follow me closely and intimately. Read the stories of my faithfulness, and trust that I am alive in those stories. You have reason to be confident in what my Word says because it is alive in me. I will breathe life into you through my Word, and I will impart all the courage you need in order to do what it says. Do not be afraid of me, but trust me in my faithfulness.

READ

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 ESV: “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

1 Peter 4:10 ESV: “ As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace”

James 1:22 ESV: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

REFLECT

Reflect on a courageous character in the Bible.

How can you learn from them?

Are you a doer of the Word?

Do you trust in God’s faithfulness in Scripture?

Who are you in Jesus? Doers of the Word
